What IS Candy Corn?
In less than two weeks, many of us will face a steady stream of costumed little ones visiting our front doors and begging for something sweet to eat. Unless you want to spend the evening sitting in the dark and pretending not to be home, it’s best not to be caught empty-handed (this author cannot confirm nor deny prior experience in this department).
Staying Healthy On Vacation
Summer is in full swing! Most people plan vacations for the middle of the summer when the beach is most appealing and the roads to the mountains are clear and easy to drive. No matter where you and your family are planning to go this year, make health a priority during your fun in the sun. Stay conscious of your body's limits, and encourage your family and friends to practice healthy habits that will help keep you safe this season.

Immune-Boosting Chicken Noodle Soup
It's amazing what a warm bowl of chicken noodle soup can do for a person when they are sick. Even just saying the words "chicken noodle soup" somehow magically makes the immune system perk up. After a few weeks of traveling, inconsistent sleep, and everyday stress, I was bound to attract any germs that were floating around waiting to attack a vulnerable immune system.
First Member Meet-up is a Success
Here at Liberty, we love to meet and get to know our members better. One way we are looking to increase these interactions is through occasional, regional "Member Meet-Up" gatherings. On the evening of March 20th, members of our Communications Department hosted the first meeting of this kind at a restaurant in Tampa, Florida. As it was our first event, we weren't quite sure what to expect, but we're glad to say the evening went wonderfully.
Membership On Tour With Redhead Express
One of the things our members appreciate most about Liberty HealthShare is the flexibility they enjoy. Because we emphasize both freedom and personal responsibility and do not restrict how, when, or where our members access healthcare professionals, they can choose what is best for them and their families.
Gluten-Free Doesn't Have To Be Boring
This Is For The Gluten-Free Folks! I think it's safe to say that we all know at least one person in our life that has decided to follow a gluten-free or a low-carb diet. Many individuals who choose this path do so because of a medical concern but there are also those who see an overall health benefit to eating this way. I, myself, do not have a medical reason to eat gluten-free, nor have I adopted a low-carb lifestyle, but I do know there are members of Liberty HealthShare who do. In an effort to connect with all of our members, this recipe is for you!
You Had Me At Pizza
I would like to take a minute to thank the people of 1800's Naples for creating a wonderful, round, cheese-covered piece of deliciousness called pizza. Everyone has their favorite kind of pizza and mine happens to be the Margherita. Featuring large pieces of mozzarella cheese, sliced tomatoes, and fresh basil, the Margherita pizza was named after Queen Margherita in the late 1800's. You could say this style of pizza is fit for a queen.
He Is Risen Indeed
Easter falls on April 1st this year, which will be here before we know it. As one of two major holidays observed by Christians, Easter offers an opportunity to celebrate with our church communities, family, and friends, and even more importantly, to reflect on Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. There is a real risk of missing Easter's significance amidst bunnies, egg hunts, and family gatherings. Even for those who intentionally engage in Good Friday and Easter Sunday observances, the reality is, we can go through all the pageantry without ever truly reflecting on what it signifies.
Cooking With Color
The winter blues are no joke. The sky is grey, the trees are bare and the constant thoughts about spring weather consume our days. Subzero temperatures, icy roads, and dreary weather are sure to bring even the happiest person down in the dumps. So what can you do when you're stuck inside and feeling blue? Throw on an apron and get yourself in the kitchen!
Tackling Soup for the First Time!
Below is part 1 of a new blog series written by Sam, Liberty HealthShare's Social Media Specialist, as she tackles her new year's resolution to make meals from scratch. Follow her journey as she steps outside the microwavable, frozen meal box, and creates some healthy habits along the way.

Our Thanksgiving Wishes For You
The great American holiday, otherwise known as Thanksgiving, is this Thursday. Whether you celebrate with turkey and all the fixings or you’re more of a ham family, whether you spend your day serving at a local charity or watching the parade and football, we hope you enjoy a day full of reminiscing over old memories and the creation of new ones. As you look around the table, don’t forget to take this opportunity to recall the many things you have to be thankful for.
A Total Eclipse Of The Sun
Monday, August 21st, the United States will fall under the path of a total solar eclipse. Total solar eclipses occur every 18 months or so, but because of the Earth and Moon's orbit shapes, visibility occurs at a different location on Earth each time. This means a total solar eclipse that is visible from the US is a rare occurrence. The last time the US experienced a total solar eclipse was on March 7th of 1970 and the next one visible from our nation won't occur until 2024!
Positive Ways Your Pet Affects You
Those of us who are pet owners know that having a dog or cat - or bird, reptile, amphibian, or rodent, depending on your interests - makes life a little bit better. Each breed and individual animal has its quirks, but generally, there is a bond between owner and pet. In the case of dogs and (some) cats, they're waiting when you come home, ready to play, in some cases looking like they're actually smiling because they've been reunited with you after a WHOLE day apart. Have you ever noticed that being around a pet has a calming effect on your mental and emotional state? Certainly, there are some pets that bring rambunctious energy everywhere they go, but there are others that seem to simply enjoy being nearby. The calming effect of pets is no illusion.
Dad Jokes & Father's Day Gifts
This Sunday, June 18th is Father's Day. While there isn't quite the same level of gift and card-purchasing panic leading up to the day as on Mother's Day weekend, the holiday still offers a great opportunity to show our dads and father figures that they are loved and appreciated. Before we get to gift ideas for the dads in our lives, we need to address the elephant in the room. We've all experienced this eye-roll-inducing phenomenon, common to most paternal figures probably the whole world over.
TV Moms & Mother's Day Gifts
Mother's Day is Sunday, May 14th. Coming up with the right gift can be hard, but here's a fun approach. There's no one quite like your mother (feel free to steal that line for your greeting card!), but she might remind you of an iconic TV mom you've come to love. Using these memorable ladies as our template, let’s imagine how they might like to be celebrated on Mother's Day and see if their preference also works for your real-life, one-in-a-million mom.
Did You Eat Today? Thank a Farmer.
You've probably heard the slogan "no farms, no food" before. It seems fairly obvious, but these days, most of us have lost our connection to the work that goes into providing what goes on our plates. And while farms are essential, they are only land and buildings without committed farmers who are willing to get up before the sun, in all kinds of weather, in order to steward the land and animals in their charge.
This Should Perk You Up
Drip. Perk. French press. Pour over. Cold brew. Espresso. Nitro-infused. What's your favorite way to drink coffee? Today is National Coffee Day, according to...well, whoever it is that assigns celebratory days for beloved foods and beverages. Thankfully, unlike some of the more decadent foods deemed special enough to get their own day - think bacon, pie, and ice cream - coffee doesn't have to derail your health and wellness goals. In fact, according to the Mayo Clinic website, the health benefits of consuming coffee likely outweigh the risks for most people.

Exploring Your Local Farmers Market
Have you ever shopped at a Farmer's Market? Not since the beginning of the industrial revolution has farm-to-table been a more meaningful phrase. Buying directly from a farmer means you are purchasing the freshest local products available while supporting a small business. It's good for you, your health, and your local economy!
Winning A Backache-Free Backyard Battle
May’s Memorial Day preserves the memory of veterans who have given their lives for our country’s freedom – a freedom that, among other things, gave us the Great American Backyard. In preparing our backyards for warm weather activities, we wage war on winter damage, insect infestations, and Pinterest fantasies. Before launching your offensive, read our Intelligence Briefing. It could keep you from being wounded in the Battle of the Backyard!
Life Is A Garden, So Dig In
In today's world of ever-changing technology – computers, iPads, smart phones, etc. – our culture has become increasingly plugged in even as we lose touch with nature. Publicly available data show healthcare costs are the highest they have ever been, and they continue to increase. 33% of U.S. adults are obese, incurring $148 billion in medical costs annually and contributing to 18% of adult deaths. Our population spends more than 90% of their time indoors, leading a sedentary, disconnected, unhealthy, and unnatural lifestyle. These figures are sobering, but there is good news, and it's right outside your door.
5 Ways Health Sharing Is Like The Force
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away existed a movie franchise that united and inspired millions, shaping the very fabric of planetary pop culture. You don't need to be one of the die-hard fans that bought your advance tickets for multiple showings of its latest installment to be somewhat familiar with Star Wars. Its pervasive influences are tough to miss in our world.
