A Message from Our CEO: Liberty Healthshare Leads the Way in Medical Cost Transparency
The Healthcare Bluebook tool is at the forefront of a much-needed revolution in our approach to healthcare, but that’s not surprising. After all, “liberty” is just another word for freedom. Liberty is giving our members the freedom they deserve to choose the best medical care at the best price.
Accessing Healthcare as a Self-Pay Patient
Liberty HealthShare members are considered “self-pay patients." This means that we function more like customers, shopping for the best value when accessing healthcare. Most of us have little to no prior experience with this. So where do we begin? It’s actually not as complicated as it seems.
The Benefits of Healthcare Sharing
By choosing a faith-based, community solution to the problem of skyrocketing healthcare costs and becoming active participants in their care, healthcare sharing ministry members are keeping more of their hard-earned money and helping return sanity to the American healthcare system at large.
Membership On Tour With Redhead Express
One of the things our members appreciate most about Liberty HealthShare is the flexibility they enjoy. Because we emphasize both freedom and personal responsibility and do not restrict how, when, or where our members access healthcare professionals, they can choose what is best for them and their families.
Freedom, Plus Thousands Of Dollars Saved
One of the key values that animates the work of Liberty HealthShare is right there in our name: liberty. We believe our members should be able to access the healthcare that is best for them and their families, without bureaucratic oversight or interference. It's especially rewarding for us when we find out this emphasis on freedom has positively impacted members on a practical level, enabling them to get the care they need in a timely manner. This was just the case for Mary and Dan K., members from Texas whose children have endured serious health issues in recent years. We recently talked with Mary about their experience as Liberty HealthShare members through a difficult and frightening season.
Real Change Begins With Us
Last month, Liberty HealthShare Executive Director Dale Bellis spoke to a packed ballroom from the main stage at the American Conservative Union's Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in National Harbor, Maryland. Liberty HealthShare does not endorse political movements, parties, or candidates, however, CPAC offers a great opportunity to share healthcare sharing with an audience that is invested in religious and economic liberty; principles we strongly feel should be promoted. The moment he took the stage, Dale delved into what he believes are the fatal flaws in our nation's current system for healthcare delivery, homing in on the third-party-payer system in particular.
Liberty goes to Washington
February 21st - 24th, Liberty HealthShare will sponsor and attend the American Conservative Union's Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C. This annual event draws thousands of attendees from all over the nation and we are excited to have a chance to interact with them.
Exercise Your Freedom Today
When we’re just kids, running and playing with our friends is second nature. When we're free to choose how and when we will play, we have almost limitless energy, but as we get older, something shifts. Usually, no thanks to gym class, we no longer run because it’s fun, but rather because the teacher standing on the track is using his stopwatch to rate our performance.
Effects Of The Healthcare Sharing Mentality
Have you ever noticed how making changes in one area of your life can cause you to reevaluate other, seemingly unrelated areas? Take health, for example. You make the commitment to start eating more healthily and, over time, you notice you have more energy. Greater energy translates into a desire to move more, so you join a gym and start attending classes. Then you recognize that your stress level is more manageable, and you feel so great that you start enjoying your hobbies again, further lowering your stress.
Talking To Legislators About Healthcare Sharing
Like many of you, we here at Liberty HealthShare have been watching and waiting to see what Congress will do regarding federal healthcare policy. In fact, Liberty has participated in discussions on Capitol Hill, making sure healthcare sharing remains recognized, protected, and available as a method of paying medical costs for our members. At this point, it appears Congress is an at an impasse and no changes to the Affordable Care Act are imminent. Therefore, we are business as usual. Earlier this year, we asked you to reach out to Congressional representatives to ask for continued recognition and protection of healthcare sharing. Many of you contacted us asking for more instructions on how to speak with legislators or their staff members. Since we may ask you to contact your representatives again in the future, we pulled together some best practices.
Solving Healthcare Policy With Health Sharing
Recent months have held ongoing legislative discussions concerning the possible repeal and replacement of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare. Although Liberty HealthShare does not align with or endorse any political party, we make a point of staying on top of any policy developments that might affect our membership at both the federal and state level. Several months ago, Liberty HealthShare Executive Director Dale Bellis and HealthShare Radio host John Daly interviewed former Virginia governor and presidential candidate Jim Gilmore.
Speak Up For Healthcare Sharing
If you are an active or pending Liberty HealthShare member who has opted to receive our occasional e-mails, you should have received a message from us regarding the following: This Thursday, the House of Representatives will vote on the American Health Care Act. We need your help. We are asking you to take a few minutes to call your Congressional Representative and urge him or her to advocate for language that supports healthcare sharing ministries in the bill.
Dale Bellis Takes The Main Stage
Liberty HealthShare Executive Director Dale Bellis recently took the main stage at CPAC 2017 in Washington, DC, bringing a message about patient rights and freedom to a live audience of several thousand, and to countless online and television viewers.
CPAC Healthcare Panel With Dale Bellis
After Liberty HealthShare Executive Director Dale Bellis' delivered a rousing speech at CPAC, he served as a panelist in a session entitled "Recovering from Obama Flu: What is the Prescription for Healthcare?" Dale's professional background made him an excellent addition to the panel, and his fellow panelists also contributed an impressive list of healthcare credentials with regard to both policy and administration. As the title suggests, this panel was focused on the healthcare legacy of President Obama; otherwise known as the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Dale and the other panelists had in common a focus on returning healthcare freedom to individuals as the best remedy for our current, broken system - an approach with which Liberty HealthShare members can wholeheartedly agree.
We've Surpassed 100,000 Lives. Let’s Celebrate!
Last month, we sent an e-mail to our membership in celebration of the fact that Liberty HealthShare had just achieved a milestone. In mid-December, our membership surpassed 100,000 people. It’s hard to believe that since then, we’ve added over 10,000 more individuals to our community!
Your Participation Matters
Members of healthcare sharing ministries are a unique breed. We are determined to protect our individual liberties, and yet we have committed ourselves to sharing with this community. These two behaviors may seem incongruous to some, but we believe they go hand in hand. For many of us, it is our individual freedom that compels us to share with others as they share with us. We want others to remain free as well. Participating in elections is one of the main ways we preserve and protect our unalienable rights.
Happy Constitution Day!
On September 17th, 1787, the delegates to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia signed the United States Constitution, adopting it as the supreme law of this land. In recognition of its historic signing, we observe Constitution Day each year. Even today, 229 years later, this unique document remains the standard by which all other laws are measured. In fact, the Constitution is so extraordinary that other nations have used it as a template for their own governmental structures!
Voting For Freedom
Last month, Liberty HealthShare sent representatives to Cleveland and Philadelphia to meet with those attending the Republican and Democrat National Conventions. Since healthcare is a particularly hot topic this election cycle, we wanted to make sure candidates and their campaigns are aware of our unique status. We are always paying attention to possible policy changes, both at the national and the state level, and we are always advocating for FREEDOM!
Conscience And Common Sense
A Member (and Employee) Testimonial Hi. I'm Christen Varley, Public Affairs Specialist for Liberty HealthShare. When people ask me what it is I do every day, I tell them I'm the luckiest person working here. I spend most of my days talking to people all over our country about healthcare sharing with Liberty HealthShare! I get to speak with clergy, lay people, business owners, journalists, potential members, activists, attorneys, policy analysts, and sometimes even elected officials. I explain what healthcare sharing is, how it came into being, and how Liberty Health Share is helping people all over the country pay for medical costs in a community that cares about maintaining good health and pitching in to help others in times of need. My favorite part of any conversation, though, is telling them why I chose healthcare sharing for my own family.
The Voice Of Utah Is Heard
Liberty Healthshare Members in Utah Advocate for Healthcare Sharing Last fall, we informed existing Liberty HealthShare members in Utah that their state legislature was considering a bill that would lock in protections for members of healthcare sharing ministries. Early in 2016, the bill was sponsored in the House by a legislator who is also a physician. For the last couple of weeks, we have been encouraging our Utah members to reach out to state legislators and advocate for healthcare sharing, and what a great response we've had!
Liberty HealthShare and Mobile Membership
Most people dream of retirement. They envision that once the kids are grown, they can sit back and take things a little bit easier. For many, that may be the dream, but for others, the empty-nest years mean a new adventure. This past April, one such couple, Liberty HealthShare members Jerry and Sheila Wise, embarked on their new journey to become work-campers.
A Call to Church Leaders Across The Nation
Representatives of Liberty HealthShare recently had the privilege of participating in the Future Conference at Skyline Church in La Mesa, California. The Future Conference is a gathering of pastors, church leaders, and Christians interested in discussing difficult topics. It is a four-day event that covers more than twenty topics.
What Makes Medical Cost Sharing Different
As the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has mandated that all individuals have some sort of health plan, interest in different types of options has increased. Liberty HealthShare is not health insurance, but it is medical cost sharing. This type of healthcare is allowable under the ACA. However, there are some things you should understand about how medical cost sharing is different from traditional healthcare options.
You're In Charge With Liberty HealthShare
Executive Director Dale Bellis discusses the freedom Liberty HealthShare members enjoy as self-pay patients. Members are free to control their own healthcare, make decisions about their own futures, and regain control they haven't previously had.
Media Personality Skeptical About Medical Cost Sharing
Last spring, John Daly, an award-winning, internationally-known journalist, news anchor, producer, writer, author, and TV host went from skepticism to belief in the validity of medical cost sharing. A media analyst and former guest on The Tavis Smiley Show, Daly tuned in one day and heard Smiley interviewing Dr. Elaina George, a board-certified ENT physician from Atlanta, Georgia and Liberty HealthShare member. During the course of the broadcast, Dr. George mentioned cost sharing and Liberty HealthShare in particular. This unique concept stopped Daly in his tracks. He wondered, “What is this?”
Review Of The Self Pay-Patient, By Sean Parnell
While members of Liberty HealthShare may not see themselves as self-pay patients, in the legal realm of medical payments, that is exactly how they are considered. Sean Parnell, author of the blog TheSelfPayPatient.com and the book The Self-Pay Patient: Affordable Healthcare Choices in the Age of Obamacare, lays out a field guide to the many options available to people who have decided to take the self-pay route.
