Employee Spotlight: Meet Paula

Paula Pulskamp is happiest when she is helping people. The personable and approachable assistant in the Ministry, Community Relations, and Events Office has been drawing oxygen from her interaction with people from her earliest beginnings in Barberton, Ohio.

“I was one of six kids growing up,” said Pulskamp. “I have always enjoyed being around people. My early experiences led me to sustaining relationships with my siblings. My sisters are my best friends, and my brothers are my heroes.”

In all of her jobs leading up to joining the Liberty HealthShare family in 2017, Pulskamp found enjoyment from serving people well. As a server in a restaurant, to 20-plus years as a cashier at a fresh food grocery store, Pulskamp created a reputation for excellent service to others.

“It’s my way of making sure that people see Jesus in me,” said Pulskamp. “I pray every day that I can be used in a way that brings glory to God.”

Pulskamp’s pathway to Liberty HealthShare began by seeing an opening on Facebook announcing that the ministry was looking for a shuttle bus driver, shuffling employees from off-site parking lots to the Liberty HealthShare headquarters.

“I drove a 15-passenger bus, and I had the best time,” said Pulskamp. “I got to meet a ton of people and start and end their day with them. I referred to my passengers as my precious cargo. That is the way I viewed my responsibilities.”

After 13 months, Pulskamp took on a front desk/receptionist position which gave her opportunities to meet and interact with other populations of Liberty HealthShare employees.

“We have great people here” she said. “I love our people. They care deeply about our members and our ministry.”

Pulskamp’s latest transition took her to serve as an assistant to Wes Humble, executive director of Ministry, Community Relations, and Events.

“It’s a blessing to assist Pastor Wes,” said Pulskamp. “His passion for members of the Liberty HealthShare family is genuine and easy to see from his actions.”

In her current role, Pulskamp joins Humble and other Liberty HealthShare personnel at events throughout the country promoting the benefits of membership in the ministry.

“I’m a homebody, so I didn’t know how I would like to travel and working the events,” said Pulskamp. “It turns out that I love it because it allows me to meet people and talk about all that we offer here. I also get a chance to learn more about my colleagues, some that I had never worked with before they joined us for the trip. It has been rewarding.”

Away from work, Pulskamp and her husband, Jerry, will celebrate 42 years of marriage in April. They have two grown children, a son, Steven, and daughter, Susan. They have also been blessed with two grandchildren, Sophia (9) and Ezekiel (6).

“I’ve grown so much as a person here at Liberty HealthShare,” said Pulskamp. “I love the atmosphere. I love what we stand for, and I love the impact we have on our members. For a people person like me, these experiences have been life changing."
