Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16 (English Standard Version)
In the midst of crisis, it can feel like there are a hundred things to address immediately and too little time to respond to any of them. The sudden demands on time, emotions, and energy quickly add up and leave us drained and reeling. Our relationship with God can suffer as the pressure mounts, and we question if he could really love us and still allow the circumstances we're experiencing. We often interpret the pain as God creating distance from us, rather than inviting us to come close.
Verses like this one are catalysts for a shift in focus. This verse reminds us that our access to God does not depend on what he allows us to experience. Rather, our circumstances are manageable because of the grace and mercy he offers through a close relationship with him. We approach God's throne in full confidence that Jesus's life, death, and resurrection was enough to make us right with God. By drawing close to him, we find the mercy and grace that make it possible to thrive in times of need.
