Blessed, Mocked and Lied About: And I'm happy about it!

January 15th, 2019

His Word:

God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers. 12 Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted in the same way. Matthew 5:11-12 NLT

Our Walk:

Every one of us has experienced mocking or having someone lie about us. Maybe it happened when we were young at home or at school. Perhaps it is happening now because us circumstances that are a part of your life. When Jesus spoke these words to His first disciples He knew that it was going to be something they would have to deal with. Being mocked, persecuted or lied about because you are His follower is something Jesus taught that all of us would probably face at one time or another in our lives.

People generally will do everything they can to pull others around them down to their level. It’s as though you are an indictment to them if you don’t participate in the same behavior. It’s as though they want to pull you down to their level. Jesus said, “Be happy about it! Be very Glad!” This would not be our first typical response if we are walking through it. If you are experiencing similar situations in your life and it is because of your desire to be faithful to God, know that a great reward awaits you someday in heaven. God keeps the records. His “little black book” is way more accurate than ours so we don’t have to keep track of our enemies. The ancient prophets were laughed at and mocked on a regular basis but they were some of God’s favorite people. Take a step back and let God fight your battles and enjoy the blessing of His presence. He knows all about it and you.

Their Wisdom:

“No healthy Christian ever chooses suffering; he chooses God's will, as Jesus did, whether it means suffering or not.” ― Oswald Chambers

“There are those who hate Christianity and call their hatred an all-embracing love for all religions.” ― G.K. Chesterton

“Why are those who are notoriously undisciplined and unmoral also most contemptuous of religion and morality? They are trying to solace their own unhappy lives by pulling the happy down to their own abysmal depths.” ― Fulton J. Sheen
