Always Keep a Room
And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born. She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped Him snugly in strips of cloth and laid Him in a manger because there was no lodging available for them. Luke 2:6-7 NLT
Much has been written and surmised about Mary’s reaction when she found out there was no room available. I can only imagine what a pregnant mother would feel in those moments. Was she upset? Did she cry out to God and ask what He was thinking? There is no indication of any such reaction. She went to a stable and laid Him in a manger. For the King of Glory, the Son of God, the Fairest of Ten Thousand, it was okay because it was a place. There was no lodging, but there was a place.
You and I have the opportunity to open our hearts as a place for God to dwell. As children we sang, “Into my heart, into my heart, come into my heart Lord Jesus. Come in today, come in to stay, come into my heart Lord Jesus.”
Make sure you have an open-door policy for the Lord. Always give Him the freedom to come and go. Always keep a room available. Open your heart and let Him in daily.
Prayer
Dear Jesus, I will always make room in my heart for you. Even on this day we celebrate your birth, help me to not let the business of this day crowd out my time with you and for you. Amen.
